When we walk in the will of God and are committed to his ways, we face many obstacles. In our determination to accomplish His purpose we are faced with persecution and opposition, fighting one battle after the other to fulfill our destiny. These battles can leave us depleted, saddened and hopeless – making us want to quit the journey.
Elijah was a committed prophet of the Lord, doing everything the Lord has commanded of him, when his life was in danger after killing the prophets of Baal. He faced death and had to flee for his life. While fleeing from his enemies, he became tired. He was tired of being persecuted and facing opposition and he had enough, he wanted to quit. “He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.” (1 Kings 19: 4, 5.) But God sent his angel to prepare a meal for Elijah while he was sleeping, to strengthen him on the journey ahead. (1 Kings 9: 6)
Sometimes the journey we’re on is tough, filled with persecution and opposition and we become tired of fighting and fleeing, feeling everything is too much for us, but we have a helper, a God in heaven, who sends his angels to strengthen us along the way.
Today God says to you: While you were sleeping, I have prepared a meal for you, to strengthen you for the journey ahead. I know you had enough and want to quit, but “wipe your tears and be strengthened for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
Psalm 127: 2 says: “The Lord provides for his children while they sleep.” While you were sleeping God has made a way for you and have provided what you need to complete the task ahead of you. The Bible says after Elijah was strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights (1 Kings 19: 8). Just like that meal strengthened Elijah in his weariness, God is sending you help, he is sending you strength to continue on your journey, to complete an accomplish what he has set out for you to accomplish.
Today I encourage you to get up and eat. Get up from that place of disappointment and discouragement, the place where you’ve been laying since the day you decided you’ve had enough. Be strengthened. Sit up and eat the meal the angel of the Lord has prepared for you.
